Wine Blog #1
I don't recall the first time I tried wine, but there is certainly one first instance of trying wine that stands out to me. I must've been 10 or 12 at the time, and had been at home for days due to being sick. At one point I was laying on my couch, super dehydrated and thirsty as I had tonsilitis really badly and it prevented me from opening my mouth. There was a glass of water sitting next to me, and in my dehydrated pursuit of any liquid I grabbed it and took a massive gulp. Much to my dismay this wasn't actually water, but my mothers glass of white wine. I still remember the burning sensation and how badly it scorched my already sore throat. Definitely wasn't a fan of the taste.
In terms of my other wine experiences, I have none. Ever since then I had generally stayed away from wine, and this still rings true even now that I'm 22. The few occasions I've had wine were generally due to peer pressure from family, and I very rarely finish the glass. Though I think it's more of a mental stigma for me rather than me just hating wine.
The most common scenario I drink wine in is when I'm drinking with friends and someone brings some box wine over. Just by trying these random box wines I have learned a little about the type of wine I prefer. I think generally I dislike sweeter wines, but sometimes I like a certain type of sweetness. I'm really not sure how to describe it yet, but figuring this out is one of the things I'm most excited for during this course. Generally I know champagne makes me sleepy and tired, which is unfortunate when I have morning mimosas and fall asleep an hour after, only having a single glass. I believe I prefer red wines to white, but I'm hoping this course will help me figure that out as well.
