Tasting - Dark Horse Sauvignon Blanc

Image
Name : Dark Horse Sauvignon Blanc     Variety : Sauvignon Blanc Region : California Country : USA Year : 2020 Price : 8.90 Critic Review: Critic Review not available- used description from "totalwine.com" and various customer reviews California- A deliciously refreshing Sauvignon Blanc offering bright citrus and tropical fruit, with a crisp, juicy finish. Perfect as an aperfitif or paired with grilled fish or pasta. Dark horse is a go to brand for me, they’re affordable and every variety I have tried has been good. Now keep in mind they’re not your high end wine, but for the price it’s a steal! I love a good Sauvignon blanc and I will grab this on most occasions compared to other brands of Im not in the mood to explore or gamble on the taste. LOVE Dark Horse wine. It always tastes great and for a great price. Highly recommend trying a variety of their grapes, red or white. You can buy at any store, and choose from their many red and white wines. My second favorite is the All ...

Wine and Cheese #2

Image
Wine and Cheese Tasting The cheese The Boys and the Cheese Ste. Chateau Michelle Rose 2020 - 100% Syrah This wine is very light in aroma, it smells very floral, like a garden. The color is nearly clear, looking at it from the side it almost looks completely clear. Looking at it from the top you can see the pink hue more. This wine is very simple in taste. I'm primarily getting fruity notes, specifically a lot of strawberry. There is sort of a generic sweet berry taste. We paired this wine with a Havarti cheese. In my opinion, this cheese didn't pair very well with this wine for a few reasons. The Havarti really brought out the bitterness of the wine I feel like, which was surprising considering the Havarti is a pretty weak cheese (not much flavor). I thought the creamy-ness of the cheese would bring out some of the sweetness in the rose, but instead it just brought out a lot of the alcohol and bitterness. However, when eating a small amount of the cheese it is is a bit more p...

Wine Dinner - 3/17/22

Appetizer - Garlic Bread Main Entrée - Spaghetti with meat sauce and beef Dessert - Chocolate cake After work, my friends and I decided to have a relaxing night enjoying each others company with a good meal and some wine. The pasta was home made, but everything else was bought from kroger and prepared. The pasta was prepared by my roommate, Sir Jack Parisi, a man of Italian descent. Jack knows his pasta, and makes a mean spaghetti. He chose to use a mushroom onion pasta sauce. A great choice. We paired the garlic bread paired with a Masseria Cardillo Titta, a southern Italy red blend of aglianico and primitivo, which unfortunately wasn't a favorite of mine. The wine was very very dry, and sort of savory. The wine really brought out the garlic from the garlic bread, which I thought was great. The wine was mildly tannin-y. Combined with the garlic bread, it made my mouth very dry.  After the appetizer, paired our spaghetti with a Conte Di Campiano appassimento, made from negroam...

Tasting - Pacific Rim Sweet Riesling

Image
Name : Pacific Rim Sweet Riesling Variety : Riesling Region : Columbia Valley, Washington  Country : USA Year: 2020 Price : 9.99 Critic Review :  https://www.winepros.org/pacific-rim-sweet-riesling/ Tasting Notes First off, Pacific Rim Sweet Riesling wine has a pale lemon color. Then, as soon as it closes in the nose, aromas of jasmine, orange blossom, and ripe peach emerge. In the mouth, sweet flavors of pineapple and mango combined with honey and lime commence a crazy dance. A Mandarin orange note lingers on the finish, while a lively acidity offsets the overall ripeness. As a consequence, Pacific Rim has endless layers of deliciousness. Appearance Pacific Rim has a captivating appearance. It starts with a soft lemon color. The center is semi-opaque and opens near the rim to a golden hue as the wine stays in the glass. And the legs are long and watery. Pacific Rim ensures that the attention of wine enthusiasts will not drift off. Aroma Pacific Rim opens with green and...

Tasting - Meiomi Pinot Noir

Image
Name : Meiomi Pinot Noir Variety : Pinot noir Region : Sonoma County Country : USA Year : 2020 Price  : 15.47 Critic review :  To start, the wine opens with a beautifully designed twist top.   The top has a satisfying, engineered feeling to it that I haven’t experienced before. Appearance In the glass, Meiomi Pinot Noir is fairly dark and plum in color.  Maybe similar to a lighter Merlot. Just a bit of light is able to shine through. The wine coats up the glass well when tipped and leaves slow falling legs on the inside of the glass. Aroma While not immediately noticeable upon opening the bottle, this wine is pretty aromatic. The New World Pinot Noir glass I was using was helpful in drawing a spicy, jammy aroma upwards to my nose. Overall, the aroma was enjoyable with just a mild hint of alcohol. Meiomi Pinot Noir alcohol content 13.7% per the bottle. Taste While tasting this wine, a happy accident occurred. I poured it and then got distracted for a littl...

Tasting - Cupcake Prosecco

Image
Name:  Cupcake Vineyards Prosecco Variety: Prosecco  Region: Venito Country: Italy Year: 2022 Price: 11.00 Critic Review:  The Prosecco was very light in the glass, nearly clear, and I caught hints of a green color when it was in just the right light. On the nose I got a fairly generic citrus aroma, and not much of one to be honest. In the mouth I picked up notes of peach and a hint of a toasted bread on the finish. All in all, it was fairly middle of the road with nothing to really make it stand out. However, I’d still recommend giving it a try. Why you ask? Because this wine very much fell into the category of “table bubbles” for me – it wasn’t spectacular or earth shaking, but it also wasn’t a disappointment, especially for around $10. Wine Folly: The taste profile lists prosecco wine in general as being very acidic- I certainly agree and may even say this wine is more acidic than usual. I can't necessarily taste it, but my acid reflux is like an acid blood houn...

Tasting - Apothic Rose

Image
name : Apothic rose variety : rose blend region : Modesto, CA country : USA year : 2020 price : 7.99 Critic review : The flavours of Apothic Rose stand out. You will be hit by fruit flavours of strawberries, raspberries, and watermelon, all fruits that make you think about lovely weather and sipping a glass of rose in the garden. These bold flavours make it a great choice of wine to serve with a meal. Not only does it go with seafood and chicken, but it is also a good accompaniment to a cheese board. Choose semi-soft cheeses like Gruyere, Havarti, and Monterey Jack. It also goes so well with vegetarian and vegan dishes. In addition, you can even serve it with a dessert such as a blueberry cobbler, rhubarb cake, or madeleines.  Wine Folly: Wine Folly states the primary flavor tasted in rose is rose petal, but with this specific wine I taste more strawberry. The site states the longer the contact with grape skins, the darker the color; this wine most not have been in contact ver...
